Varner Super Max inmate commits suicide
A Varner Super Max inmate has committed suicide according to a press release from the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
According to the release Jeremy Coleman, an inmate at the Varner Unit Super Max in Lincoln county, is suspected of taking his own life early Friday morning.
A Correctional Sergeant making rounds found Coleman hanging in his single-man cell.
The Shift Supervisor and Infirmary staff were notified, responded immediately, and performed life saving measures until Coleman was pronounced deceased at approximately 2:05 a.m.
Coleman was serving a total of 55 years for a 2002 conviction for Murder-1st Degree out of Jefferson County and a Batter-1st Degree and another 8 counts of Battery-1stDegree out of Lincoln County, all 2022 convictions.
Arkansas State Police investigators responded to the scene to investigate Coleman’s death.
The Department of Corrections is also conducting an internal investigation.
