Monticello man sentenced to prison on Sexual Assault charges
A Monticello man has been sentenced to 12 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections with an additional six years suspended imposition of sentence after pleading guilty to Sexual Assault in the Second Degree on one case and pleading no-contest to Sexual Assault in the Second Degree in a second case.
According to a press release from the Drew County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation was opened on 22-year-old Jalin Green after he was accused of engaging in sexual activity with two girls under the age of 15. Green was 18 at the time the investigation began.
Once the allegations were substantiated with the assistance of the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division and the Arkansas State Crime Lab the Tenth Judicial Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed charges against Green in both cases.
The case encountered substantial delays throughout the court process due in part to the unavailability of critical witnesses, Green’s request for mental evaluations, and his arrest on separate criminal charges in Saline County.
After he was sentenced on Thursday, Green was taken into custody by the Drew County Sheriff’s Office while he awaits transfer to the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
Green must register as a sex offender and comply with the conditions of his suspended sentence for six years after his release from the ADC. If he violates any of the conditions his suspended sentence could be revoked, and he could be sentenced to serve up to another 16 years.
