Man arrested after attempting to smuggle contraband into Jefferson County jail
A 27-year-old Pine Bluff man has been arrested after he attempted to smuggle contraband into the W. C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center.
27-year-old Montrell Vanderbilt was arrested for for furnishing prohibited articles, possession of a controlled substance with the purpose to deliver (cocaine), and codeine into the jail.
Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods, Jr. released the following statement about the incident:
“Vanderbilt's arrest underscores our dedication to minimizing the threat of contraband, such as drugs, entering our detention center. Criminals willing to violate the law in return for promises from other inmates will ultimately face the same fate – arrest and justice,” said Woods
“Through specialized techniques and good old-fashioned criminal investigations, we will continue to vigorously root out those who dare attempt to introduce contraband into any of our restricted facilities,” Woods added.
Woods also added a special thanks to Tri-County Drug Task Force (DTF) Commander, Captain Yohance Brunson, Investigator Morgan Carter, and other DTF Investigators for their hard work and dedication.
“Your efforts make a significant impact in maintaining the integrity and safety of our detention center,” said Woods.
