Kingsland post office to be renamed in honor of Johnny Cash
The Kingsland post office will soon be renamed after the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation on Monday to rename the post office after Kingsland native and country music icon Johnny Cash.
Representative Bruce Westerman sponsored H.R. 7180 which will officially rename the post office as the “Johnny Cash Post Office”
“The unanimous passage of this bill is a testament to the legacy Johnny Cash left behind through service to his country, his iconic music, and the deep impact he and his family have had on the Natural State,” Westerman said in a statement.
Cash, who was born in Kingsland, played a concert to usher in the grand opening of the post office in 1994. Cash’s wife, June Carter Cash, had a pictorial stamp with the Kingsland postmark made in his honor.
Cash will receive an additional honor this year as his statue will be added to National Statuary Hall at the U.S. Capitol
