UAPB finally cleared to resume operations following Monday bomb threat
UPDATE: UAPB has been cleared to resume normal operations following a bomb threat on Monday. This was announced in the following press release:
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) Public Safety and Police Department aided by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, City of Pine Bluff Police Department, Little Rock Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted physical and K-9 searches of the premises. The searches did not reveal any suspicious items or individuals. The campus has been cleared to resume normal academic and business operations.
The UAPBPD has increased its security measures on campus following the threat notifications today. The UAPB administration takes these threats seriously and continues to make the safety and well-being of students and employees the University’s top priority. Our police department will continue working with local, state, and federal law enforcement to ensure our campus remains open
and safe.
The university is committed to maintaining a safe environment for all members of our community. We want to take this opportunity to remind our community that if you “see something, say something.” The Public Safety Department will continue to monitor the situation, along with local law enforcement. If you have an emergency contact, UAPBPD at (870) 575-8102 or 911.
Again, the safety of all students, faculty, and staff is our top priority.
UPDATE: UAPB has provided an update on Monday morning’s bomb threat:
The UAPB Public Safety Department was notified of a campus threat at approximately 7:15 a.m. today. Since that time, UAPB Public Safety has been coordinating with federal, state and local authorities to conduct searches of all campus buildings for suspicious items or individuals.
Until the search is complete, the University will remain closed (to the public). Campus business operations should remain remote until the campus is cleared. Access onto and off campus has been limited and is being controlled by Campus Police.
We recognize that we have summer school students and several summer programs taking place on campus. The safety of these students along with our faculty and staff is our top priority.
Arrangements have been made to feed the students in residential facilities. Parents with students in the summer programs are asked to contact Campus Police at 870-575-8102 for updates or to schedule student pick up.
Please know that the university will remain closed to the public until the threat has been fully addressed and the campus is cleared for safety. UAPB Public Safety will continue to update campus administrators and the campus community via the Campus Bulletin and by RAVE Alerts.
Again, the safety of all students, faculty and staff is our top priority.
