Altheimer man killed in Saturday evening accident

An Altheimer man was killed Saturday in a single-vehicle crash near Kings Bayou Road, according to a report from the Arkansas State Police.

According to the report, 26-year-old Arturo Vargas was westbound on Arkansas Highway 88 at approximately 10:25 p.m. when the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving left the highway and overturned. He was partially ejected from the vehicle, according to the report, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

209 people have died on state highways in 2024, according to the report.
